The Ikat is one of the most famous weaves in India. The earliest reference to it comes from the murals of the Ajanta caves, dating back 1200 – 1600 years. It is a unique weave, where the threads of the warp or weft are patiently tied and then dyed multiple times, to acquire different patterns. Sometimes both are tied and dyed creating the Double Ikat.
